With SNAP paused, food pantry workers fill in the gaps

Until the government reopens its doors fully, the fate of SNAP benefits hangs in the balance, leaving 42 million Americans in a state of limbo, uncertain when their next food assistance will arrive.

In light of this uncertainty, local food banks and community organizations nationwide are stepping up to bridge the gap left by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This past weekend in Dallas, hundreds flocked to facilities such as The Stewpot and Catholic Charities of Dallas seeking emergency food aid.

Meanwhile, Democrats have been vocal, criticizing the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back food stamp payments, further highlighting the dire situation many Americans face.
