Great Wolf Lodge family massacre unfolded during rare 3-week stay

Disturbing details have emerged in the deaths of a father and his 3-year-old son, who investigators say were stabbed inside a popular Pennsylvania family resort during an extended stay.

Authorities allege Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, used “butcher knives” to stab her husband, Charles “Chaz” Harrison, 36, and the couple’s young son.

The killings occurred Monday at Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania’s Pocono region. The family was from Towanda, a small rural community in the state.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a 911 call reporting a “suicidal woman” who “needed help dying.”

Officers found both victims suffering from stab wounds inside the hotel room, along with knives, blood and various medications, court documents say.

The family had been staying at the resort for three weeks. Rooms at the property can cost more than $600 per night.

In a statement to News Media, a Great Wolf Lodge spokesperson offered limited information about the family’s unusually long stay.

“We’ve had families in the past stay at our resorts for extended periods of time while completing home renovations or repairs because our rooms are larger and there’s a lot of entertainment offerings, so a multi-week stay is uncommon, but not completely unusual,” the spokesperson said.

The resort did not disclose how the family paid for the stay and directed News Media to law enforcement for “specifics on this case.”

The family checked in Sept. 21 and had been scheduled to check out Tuesday.

Harrison, who now faces criminal homicide charges, had recently shared photos of the family at the resort’s indoor water park on social media.

Melissa Rivera, who identified herself as Chaz Harrison’s sister, wrote in a post that the family was struggling to process the loss.

Rivera also launched an online fundraiser to help cover funeral costs. “Chaz was a good guy whose whole life was centered around his wife and child. He meant so much to our family, and the pain of losing both him and my nephew so unexpectedly is hard to put into words,” she wrote.

Posts on the couple’s social media accounts indicate that they had been married for three years before the killings.

Harrison is currently sitting in a Monroe County jail cell and was denied bond, court records show. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 21.

A spokesperson for the company previously said to News Media, “We’re cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation.”
