FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Guinness has confirmed that Alex Babich’s sunflower, named Clover, has officially beaten the world record in an official measurement.

In August, the sunflower unofficially grew past the world record, originally set by a German farmer 11 years ago. The moment when Babich’s flower hit the milestone was caught on camera by a documentary film crew.

This summer, Babich was thrilled to have even passed the US record and was surprised to see Clover continue to reach new heights.

On Wednesday, a member of the Guinness Book of World Records joined a Zoom call all the way from London with Babich for an official measurement.

The sunflower has not only beaten the record, but it has blown past it by five and a half feet. The official measurement reaches 35 feet, 9 inches.

Babich, fresh off his victory, shared with WANE 15, “It’s just been crazy. It’s really humbling. The support from everyone has been unreal. It’s awesome. Thank you, everyone.”
