Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars are being recalled due to a risk of severe allergic reactions in some consumers.

WASHINGTON — Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream has issued a recall for certain Häagen-Dazs chocolate dark chocolate mini ice cream bars distributed across over 30 states. The recall is due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

The affected ice cream bars might contain wheat, which poses a significant risk to individuals with wheat allergies or severe sensitivities, potentially resulting in life-threatening reactions, as stated by the company.

The distribution of these recalled ice cream bars includes Kroger stores across 29 states and Giant Eagle locations in five states.

  • Kroger: (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming)
  • Giant Eagle: (Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia)

This recall specifically pertains to Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars packaged in a 6-count box, identifiable by the batch code LLA519501 and a Best By date of January 31, 2027. Consumers can locate this information on the product packaging.

Those with a wheat allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the recalled ice cream treats should throw it out or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream said it is still investigating, but believes products containing wheat were repacked into the wrong packaging at the start of a production run.

The company did not say exactly how many mini ice cream bars or boxes have been recalled, but described it as a “limited number” in the recall notice.

“The safety, quality, and integrity of our products remain our number one priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers,” the company added in its recall.
