'No harm' in Haley's continued campaign despite South Carolina loss: Tim Pawlenty

(NewsNation) — Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley lost the Republican primary in her home state but has vowed to remain in the 2024 race.

Tim Pawlenty, a former governor of Minnesota and former presidential candidate, joined NewsNation’s “Morning in America” to discuss how Haley’s move will impact her political future, saying there is no harm in her continuing.

“Her continued campaign for her slice of the political market, she’s on brand, it’s having a neutral to positive reflection of her and her abilities and her future. And so there’s no real harm of her continuing, notwithstanding the fact she’s not going to win,” Pawlenty said.

As of Saturday night, former President Donald Trump won 60% of the votes in South Carolina to Haley’s 39%, according to Decision Desk HQ.

“Campaigns tend to end when they run out of money. Nikki’s campaign is nowhere near running out of money, so she can continue to run for the foreseeable future and maybe into the late spring, early summer,” Pawlenty told NewsNation.

Historically, South Carolina has been a good indicator of who the Republican nominee will be. In all but one primary since 1980, the Republican winner in the state has gone on to earn the party’s nomination.
