Just two miles away from the house featured in the supernatural horror film, The Conjuring, a man made an extremely alarming 911 call: He reported that a ‘skinwalker’ had jumped into the back of his truck.

Tyler Long, a driver from North Carolina, recounted encountering a figure that resembled a ‘shapeshifting urban legend’ derived from Navajo folklore, as he traveled along Highway 210 in Atkinson.

After reviewing a command log from the Pender County sheriff’s office, the Daily Mail revealed that Long initially made the call after seeing what appeared to be a wounded man on the roadside.

Long’s voice can be heard evolving into bloodcurdling screams throughout the call – which has recently been circulating on TikTok, sparking a new wave of interest in the bizarre and terrifying incident, and leading many to believe something supernatural was at play.

While officials have never been able to figure out what Long saw, the Daily Mail reviewed the 911 audio and command log to find out everything there is to know about the paranormal encounter.

On the call, placed at 11.04pm on July 31, 2021, Long said: ‘When I drove by, I had my high beams on, and all I could see was just some streaks of red going down his body, starting at his head.’

He said the man was ‘in the middle of the woods’ near Moores Creek National Battlefield.

Suddenly, the conversation was interrupted by a loud thud.

Long could be heard yelling, ‘What the f**k?’

The operator shot back: ‘What was that, sir?’

At that point, Long began to scream. ‘That’s not human! That’s not human!’ he cried.

‘There’s something in the bed of my truck!’

Long explained that he had turned on his truck’s bed lights and saw ‘something.’

Moments later, Long said, he had ‘slammed on the brakes,’ knocking the ‘creature over the roof,’ ‘onto the hood’ of his 2003 Chevrolet 2500 HD and then onto the road.

Then, he took off.

Long, who said on the call that he had served in the US Army, remained at a loss for words when the 911 operator asked him to identify what he had seen.

‘Was it a turkey – or perhaps, a deer?’ the operator asked.

Long replied, ‘I don’t know what the hell that was! That wasn’t a turkey because I was driving 50 miles an hour!’

He said the non-human creature ‘did not have feathers’ and ‘looked pale, almost.’

He added that it ‘scared the absolute hell’ out of him, and that he was waiting to get ‘further away’ to check on any damage to his truck.

The unsettling call continued with Long trying to articulate the sequence of events from moments earlier while simultaneously driving away.

‘I don’t see it anymore!’ he eventually said. ‘I don’t see it in the distance or anything!’

‘I’m f**king shaking,’ he said moments later.

Finally, Long pulled over at Malpass County Corner Store, telling the operator that he had a Ka-Bar knife and an ax in his truck that he was ‘thinking about getting out now.’

While assessing the damage over the phone, Long described ‘some chips on the inside of the bed’ of his truck and ‘somewhat noticeable’ scratches on the roof.

The Pender County operator could be heard on the call asking Long if he wanted to file a report. Long was unsure, but said he did want his truck examined. It is unclear whether he filed a report.

The command log revealed that Long had shown authorities a TikTok video of a skinwalker-like creature previously caught on a security camera.

According to EBSCO, Navajo culture considers these mythological figures to be ‘dangerous witches’ that can shape-shift into animals. The resource claims the beings ‘are believed to harness dark forces for malevolent purposes,’ have been recorded by ‘various Native American tribes’ and ‘are seen as the epitome of harmful witchcraft.’

Long said what he saw that night was similar to what was captured in the security footage.

The log indicated that officials went to examine the area, but no one located ‘anyone or anything that was struck by a vehicle,’ and that a drone search was also unsuccessful.

The incident was closed at 2.05am on August 1, 2021, just three hours after the call was placed.

Now, four years later, social media users can’t get enough of the encounter – it has dominated conversations on multiple platforms over roughly the past month.

After hearing about Long’s experience, one Reddit user asked: ‘Anyone notice the conjuring 1 house is like feet from where this happened.’

Another user weighed in: ‘That just seems a bit too weird of a coincidence to me.’

Some folks gave some words of support for Long – and for anyone else who may have had a similar experience.

An X user commented: ‘I feel things go underreported due to people being afraid of being called ‘crazy.’ If you have been in the woods camping alone or with someone else, you know the feeling that there is more out there than we know. You can just feel it.’

Another wrote about a similar situation happening to them: ‘I have had this happen two times New Mexico. I was parked in a pull out next to an arroyo.

‘TWO DIFFERENT PLACES I did not see it but SOMEONE jumped on the hood of my jeep. Next time my cargo carrier/tailgate. It was heavy. It was huge. Not a dog. Cat. Coyote. HUGE TERRIFYING.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to Sheriff Alan W Cutler of Pender County for further comment, but has not heard back.

The Daily Mail’s attempts to reach Tyler Long for comment have been unsuccessful.
