HOPE TOWN, Bahamas — The husband of an American woman who vanished in the Bahamas has broken his silence, expressing his deep sorrow over her mysterious disappearance from a small boat.

Bahamian authorities reported that Lynette Hooker, 55, along with her husband Brian Hooker, 58, departed from Hope Town’s Abaco Inn at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They boarded a dinghy, intending to reach their yacht. According to Brian, Lynette tumbled into the sea with the ignition key, which resulted in the engine’s shutdown. The current swept her away while Brian paddled back to a marina at Marsh Harbor. He alerted officials about Lynette’s disappearance around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Brian Hooker publicly addressed the incident for the first time.

“I am devastated by the tragic boating incident amidst unpredictable weather and strong winds, which led to my cherished wife Lynette falling from our dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. Despite my frantic efforts to reach her, the elements pushed us apart. My unwavering focus remains on continuing the search for her,” Brian Hooker shared in a heartfelt post on Facebook.

“Our family is deeply grateful for the Bahamian people’s assistance, especially that of the Hopetown Volunteer Fire & Rescue team, Royal Bahamas police force, Royal Bahamas Defense Force, and the US Coast Guard, who have worked tirelessly in an ongoing effort to bring Lynette back to us. Thank you to everyone for keeping Lynette in your thoughts and for your support of our family during this difficult time,” he added.
