CHICAGO (WLS) — Northern Indiana is bracing for significant lake-effect snow, with accumulations expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Snow Squall Warning that affects southeastern Cook County, northern Kankakee County, and Will County in Illinois, along with northern Newton, Porter, Lake, and northern Jasper Counties in northwestern Indiana, effective until 9 a.m.
A Winter Storm Warning is set from 7 a.m. ET Wednesday to 1 p.m. ET Thursday, specifically targeting La Porte County, Indiana, and Berrien County, Michigan.

Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Porter County, Indiana, starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday and continuing until 4 a.m. Thursday.
Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is also active for Starke County, Indiana, from 7 a.m. ET Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday.
Bands of heavy snow are expected Wednesday afternoon. Two to 5 inches of snow are possible in Porter, while La Porte parts of Berrien could see more than 6 inches of snow, ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Tracy Butler said.
Snow will continue through Wednesday night into Thursday morning before tapering off during the day on Thursday.
A band of snow began to move through the Illinois part of the Chicago area around 7 a.m. Butler said light accumulations of less than an inch are possible.
The conditions led to a ground stop for arriving planes at O’Hare.
Temperatures across the area will drop steadily throughout the week.
