The owner of Mythical Mountain says thousands of dollars worth of comic books were stolen from her Mandarin store.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Comic books stolen from a small business in Jacksonville Tuesday amounted to thousands of dollars, that business owner said.

Kathy Dellaire, the owner of Mythical Mountain in Mandarin, showed First Coast News surveillance video of the crime from multiple cameras in her store. The burglar’s eyes are visible in several frames of the video, though he is wearing a hat, hood and mask. Dellaire said the burglary took place in under 60 seconds.

Surveillance video shows a man crouched outside the storefront early Tuesday just before 2 a.m. Dellaire said they broke the lock. Video then shows the man run inside, straight for the highest-value comic books at the back of the store.

“Jumped up on the counter behind the counter, grabbed their books, ran out,” Dellaire said. “And as a last-minute decision, grabbed the cash register as they left.”

Dellaire said there was $750 in cash in the register and she’s still tallying up the comics stolen. A long top shelf was completely bare Wednesday, but video from Tuesday shows it was filled with comic books Dellaire said ranged from $200 to $2,000.

“The feeling of just somebody can break into your place of business and take what doesn’t belong to them, it’s really frustrating, it’s really upsetting,” she said.

Dellaire is asking for the community’s help to identify the burglar.

“It’s pretty heartbreaking,” she said. “It’s definitely not something you want to wake up to New Year’s Eve and this is what you’re coming into work for your last day of 2024.”

Dellaire said she and her husband opened the store 10 years ago after her husband’s collection grew and grew inside their home.

“We sell things that make people happy,” she said.

Dellaire said she’s offering a $2,000 reward for a tip that leads to an arrest and conviction. Contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office if you know anything.

This isn’t how we planned to spend our last day of 2024!On December 31, 2024, around 1:50 a.m., our Jacksonville Mythical Mountain store was broken into by two individuals. The first suspect forced entry into the store. Shortly after, a second suspect entered and headed straight to the back of the store. This individual jumped onto the back counter and cleared the wall of high-value graded comic and other high-dollar books before pausing to grab one of the registers as they fled.We have clear video footage of the break-in and theft. Photo in comments. If you or anyone you know has any information, witnessed anything suspicious in the area or can help identify these individuals, please contact us, Jamey and Kathy Dellaire, or the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Your help is crucial in recovering what was stolen and bringing these suspects to justice. We are offering a $2000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Thank you for your support. ❤️🖤❤️
