A 12-year-old boy from England has been recognized for his heroic actions after he saved his mother’s life when she lost consciousness while driving with her foot still pressing the accelerator.
Zac Howells showcased remarkable courage and resourcefulness when his mother, Nicola, experienced a sudden and alarming medical episode behind the wheel on December 14, as reported by the West Mercia Police.
The astute youngster first attempted to rouse his mother, and when that failed, he skillfully took hold of the steering wheel, guiding the vehicle onto a grassy verge to slow it down, according to police accounts.

Once the car had come to a complete stop, Zac bravely turned off the engine and promptly called emergency services for assistance.
Thankfully, neither Zac nor his mother sustained any injuries during the ordeal.
“Zac remained calm and gave the call handler the exact location of their car to which officers were deployed,” police wrote.
Howells was granted a Chief Constable’s Commendation on Saturday, an award for individuals who display exemplary courage and bravery, cops announced.
“For a 12-year-old to react in such a calm and mature manner is magnificent, and I would like to express my gratitude for his actions that day,” Chief Constable Richard Cooper said in a statement.
“His display of bravery certainly extinguished any danger to them both, but also that of other members of the public who were on the road that day,” Cooper wrote.
