Heroic Escape: Female Jogger Survives Harrowing Attack and Attempted Drowning in Houston

A Houston bayou became the scene of a harrowing escape when a woman, in the middle of her workout, was reportedly attacked by a man who then attempted to drown her. Despite the terrifying ordeal, she managed to fend off her assailant and escape, leading to his subsequent arrest, according to authorities.

The alleged attacker, identified as 19-year-old Jacoby Isiah Fuselier, struck the woman around 6:30 p.m. on Monday near White Oak Bayou. Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen announced the arrest, highlighting the incident in a formal statement.

In her account to law enforcement, the woman described how she fought back, clawing at Fuselier’s eyes and pulling out chunks of his hair, ultimately breaking free from his grip. Once she escaped, she encountered deputy constables who promptly took her to a hospital for medical care.

“This ordeal highlights the immense strength and determination of the survivor,” commented Rosen. “Our intention is to ensure justice for her, and we extend our gratitude to the deputies who worked diligently on this case.”

In an effort to find the attacker, deputies flew a drone above the bayou and discovered a crime scene marked by claw marks through the mud and grass on the bayou’s bank.

They followed fresh bike tracks from the area to a residential street, where home surveillance video showed a man on a bicycle who matched the description of the assailant, the constable’s office said.

Once in that neighborhood, Fuselier allegedly approached another woman but fled when he saw her husband, authorities said. That woman told investigators that a man on a bike whistled at her while she was outside her home just before her husband walked out, Fox Houston reported.

Fuselier was later arrested after a brief chase and struggle. He was found in possession of a cell phone belonging to the woman he allegedly attacked at the bayou, Rosen said.

He was initially charged with evading arrest on Tuesday, followed by two counts of aggravated sexual assault on Wednesday, police said.
