Heroic Florida Deputy Saves Unresponsive Beachgoer in Thrilling Ocean Rescue

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office in Florida released dramatic video footage capturing the rescue of a woman from the ocean at New Smyrna Beach on Saturday.

The video, seemingly recorded from a body camera worn by an officer, reveals the tense moments as the officer dashed into the shallow water to retrieve the unresponsive woman.

As the officer began pulling the woman to safety, another person stepped in to assist in bringing her to shore.

“This morning, at 10:15 a.m., deputies were alerted to a swimmer in distress off New Smyrna Beach. Deputy Gourley quickly found the victim floating face down and dragged her to shore. The woman was unresponsive and had no pulse. Deputy Gourley, along with Deputy Manhart, immediately commenced CPR and managed to revive the 68-year-old woman,” the sheriff’s office detailed in a Facebook post.

The footage was shared by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page, highlighting the quick actions taken to save the woman in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

“Beach Safety arrived on scene and continued life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition,” they added.

The sheriff’s office’s social media post indicated that the deputies involved in the incident will be awarded.

“This serves as a powerful reminder that alert beachgoers, like those who spotted the woman and quickly alerted deputies, can make all the difference. Life-saving awards are forthcoming for the deputies involved for their heroic actions,” the post concluded.
