In a heart-wrenching act of valor, a courageous mother tragically lost her life as she ran into her burning home to rescue her young child.
Firefighters discovered Bonnie Pierce, aged 38, unresponsive yet cradling her toddler, having fiercely attempted to shield her from the flames, as detailed by a GoFundMe page established in her honor.
The fire erupted on a Saturday afternoon at Pierce’s duplex in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she was with two of her daughters, according to the fundraiser.
Pierce initially managed to escape the blaze alongside one of her daughters, who bravely kicked out an air conditioning unit from a window to make her way out.
However, upon realizing her toddler was still trapped inside, Pierce made the ultimate sacrifice by returning to the inferno in a desperate attempt to save her.
Fire crews got into the duplex and found Pierce unresponsive after she had been without oxygen for 15 minutes, according to the GoFundMe.

She reportedly sustained burns covering 48% of her body.
“When firefighters entered the home, they found Bonnie shielding Grace with her own body,” reads the fundraiser. “Bonnie was protecting her daughter until the very end, making the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to save her child.”
She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from her injuries on Monday.
Her daughter, whom she died protecting, remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, the fundraiser page said.
Pierce’s family is asking for help to pay medical bills, cover immediate living expenses and support her surviving children.
The fundraiser had reached over half of its $15,000 target as of Thursday morning.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Saint Paul Fire and Saint Paul Police,” a spokesperson for the fire department told The Post.
