In a dramatic turn of events in Bedford, New Hampshire, Eugene Mirman, the comedian best known for his role in the animated series “Bob’s Burgers,” was involved in a serious car accident after his vehicle collided with a toll plaza. The incident, which occurred just before noon on Tuesday, resulted in the electric car catching fire. Mirman was fortunately rescued from the burning wreck by a state trooper tasked with the protection of New Hampshire’s Governor, Kelly Ayotte.
The accident unfolded on a northbound stretch when Mirman’s car crashed into the Bedford Toll Plaza. According to the New Hampshire State Police, the governor and her security team arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. Demonstrating quick thinking, a state trooper, along with two other individuals, managed to pull Mirman through the window of the vehicle. Governor Ayotte herself was reportedly unharmed and took the initiative to retrieve a fire extinguisher, ensuring an extra layer of safety amidst the chaos.
Jay Glassner, Mirman’s agent, released a statement on Wednesday confirming the frightening ordeal. “Eugene was in a very scary car accident,” he stated, expressing Mirman’s gratitude towards the bystanders, state police, and first responders who played a crucial role in his rescue. Glassner also mentioned that Mirman is currently focused on his recovery and requested privacy for him and his family during this time.
State Police Colonel Mark Hall praised the courage of those involved in the rescue, describing their actions as nothing short of “heroic.” He commended their willingness to risk their own safety to aid someone in dire need, highlighting the selflessness and bravery displayed at the scene.
“Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it,” Hall said.
State police identified the driver as Yevgeny Mirman, 51, of Massachusetts. Mirman, who was born in Moscow and grew up in Massachusetts, is known for voicing musical middle child Gene Belcher in more than 300 episodes of the animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers” and its movie, in addition to roles on “Flight of the Conchords,” “Delocated” and “Archer.”
Ayotte said she and her husband were praying for the driver’s recovery.
“I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts,” she said in a statement.
The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
