In a touching scene on Tuesday, a Cook County police officer was reunited with a mother whose life he saved from choking just weeks earlier. The incident, which unfolded on the side of a busy road, showcased the quick thinking and decisive action of Officer Zachary Finn, a dedicated member of the force for over a decade.
Officer Finn’s prompt response has earned him accolades from his colleagues and the broader law enforcement community. However, the deepest gratitude comes from Laura Ann Munchenburg of Hammond, Indiana, the woman whose life he saved. Finn’s attention was drawn to Munchenburg when he noticed her struggling outside her car, clearly in distress from choking.
Recalling the frightening experience, Munchenburg shared her story with WGN-TV on October 28. She was on her way to Ford Heights to pick up her husband when the unexpected happened. Hoping to stave off hunger during the drive, she brought along some bagel bites.
