An official from the Georgia Forestry Commission reported that the wildfire has engulfed an estimated 130 acres. Fortunately, no buildings are currently threatened by the blaze.

WAYNESVILLE, Ga. — Following its temporary closure, Highway 82 is now open again after authorities managed to control a significant wildfire in Brantley County, Georgia.

The fire, located in the vicinity of Hazelhurst Road and Highway 82, prompted a swift response from multiple local agencies. Among those responding were the Waynesville Volunteer Fire Department and Nahunta Fire and Rescue.

A spokesperson from the Georgia Forestry Commission informed First Coast News that, prior to 5 p.m., the fire had spread across approximately 130 acres. However, the situation was improving as heavy rain showers contributed to quelling the flames.

In an effort to contain the fire, several tractors were dispatched to create firebreaks.

No structures are at risk, according to the Waynesville Volunteer Fire Department.

NFR asks that people avoid areas where emergency personnel are working and refrain from burning.
