Hilaria Baldwin insists she isn't a 'nepo' wife, was cast on 'DWTS' without Alec's help

Hilaria Baldwin denied being a “nepo” wife and insisted she got cast on “Dancing with the Stars” without her husband Alec Baldwin’s help.

“If he ever made a call, it would make things simpler for me, and I’d feel like I didn’t earn it,” she expressed on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast episode on Tuesday.

“I am a diligent worker and want to earn things based on my own achievements. Particularly because anyone married to a celebrity is often labeled as…”

“A nepo wife,” host Amanda Hirsch chimed in, to which Hilaria, 41, agreed.

“Exactly. It makes you feel like you haven’t earned it, which is a terrible feeling. Particularly as a Capricorn, it’s a dreadful sensation,” the 41-year-old explained.

Hilaria went on to point out that “one of the things that drives Alec crazy” about her is how “independent” she is, even with simple things like opening the door for herself.

Even so, “He’s very proud, he’s very supportive,” she continued. “Alec is always extraordinarily supportive of me with working.”

In fact, the “Rust” actor is so supportive that he encouraged her to join the Season 34 cast, as he had been wanting her to be on “DWTS” for a “very long time.

She revealed some hesitancy, though, as she felt that “nobody was going to want to have [her] there.”

However, she had a change of heart when production approached her and people were “manifesting it for her online” when she posted dance videos on social media.

Once she was chosen for Season 34, the “30 Rock” alum had his “I told you so” moment.

“But I am happy that it happened in the way that it happened,” she said. “It was so organic.”

The “Growing Up Together” podcast host also spoke about the backlash she has been receiving for having previous ballroom dance experience.

“Apparently, that happens every single year. So when it started happening again, my biggest fear was doing this and people being like, ‘You don’t belong here.’ And I’m like, ‘I just want to dance and I’ll work hard.’”

She also revealed her bond with co-star and “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Whitney Leavitt, who received similar backlash for her extensive dance background.

For the most part, though, she tries to “ignore” the hate and focus on the “positivity.”

Last month, Hilaria exclusively told Page Six how the ABC show has been “healing” for her family after a “hard” few years.

She said, “I think [there’s] a lot of guilt as a mother of taking a moment for yourself. Other mothers who had children, who were older than me and more experienced, would like be like, ‘Yeah, you totally need ‘me time’ to be a better mom.’ And this is one of the first things I’ve ever done that is ‘me time,’ truly.”

Hilaria and Alec got married in 2012 and share seven children: Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 5, María, also 5, and Ilaria, 3.
