Hilary Duff has opened up about an unpleasant revenge prank she pulled on a friend’s former boyfriend years ago.
The 39-year-old singer, recently seen in Australia, said she helped lead a “spicy” and “kind of evil” stunt aimed at a man who had treated her friend badly.
“My spiciest night is kind of evil and a long time ago, pre-children,” she told Billboard magazine in a new cover story.
The former child star explained that she and an accomplice prepared a foul food mixture before leaving it outside the unsuspecting man’s home.
“We were spicy and we went and bought the cheapest, grossest can of wieners and tuna and we just had a little field day on his front lawn,” she recalled.
Duff said the man had been “doing my friend real dirty,” leading her and the unnamed accomplice to devise the plan while they were “hitting the bottle.”

The 39-year-old singer told Billboard in a new cover story that she masterminded a “spicy” and “kind of evil” prank against a man who had mistreated her friend
The singer said the incident happened during her “late teen-hood,” adding that her lifestyle is much quieter now and she is more of a homebody.
Her comments come months after she became linked to a controversy over a “toxic mom group,” following an essay by Ashley Tisdale.
The provocative essay, published by The Cut, described Tisdale’s decision to leave a circle of mother friends believed to include Duff, Mandy Moore and Meghan Trainor, among others.
“Here’s the thing nobody prepared me for: Mom groups can turn toxic. Not because the moms themselves are toxic people, but because the dynamic shifts into an ugly place with mean-girl behavior. I know this from personal experience,” she wrote.
The former Disney star said some group text conversations excluded certain members, while she was also left out of social gatherings.
In the essay, Tisdale described feeling increasingly “excluded,” writing: “I was certain that I’d found my village. But over time, I began to wonder whether that was really true.
“I remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story.”

She also recalled attending a dinner party where her seat appeared to reflect her place within the group. “Another time, at one of the mom’s dinner parties, I realized where I sat with her – which was at the end of the table, far from the rest of the women. I was starting to feel frozen out of the group, noticing every way that they seemed to exclude me,” she wrote.

Last month, Duff traveled to Mexico for a girls’ trip with Moore and other friends, documenting their getaway on social media.
She shared a series of images from the trip, showing the group enjoying the sun and tropical scenery at the One&Only Mandarina resort in Riviera Nayarit.
“The group chat made it to the jungle,” Duff wrote in an Instagram caption, adding the hashtag @oomandarina.
Some followers viewed the vacation and Duff’s photo carousel as a pointed response to Tisdale.
“I just know Ashley Tisdale is punching the air right now,” one Instagram user commented.
“I bet that Ashley girl wish she was there lol,” another wrote, while a third added, “Y’all forgot about Ashley Tisdale.”
A fourth follower asked: “Is this the toxic mom trip that made it out of the group chat?”
Duff later said she was “really sad” and “taken aback” by the essay, maintaining that its claims did not accurately reflect the situation.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in February, she said: “Motherhood has brought on, like – I have my core group of friends who have been my ride or die for 20 years, 10 to 20 years, and I have tons of different groups of mom friends because I have four kids, you know?
“So, I think I just was like, ‘Whoa.’ It sucks to read something that’s not true, and it sucks on behalf of, like, six women and all of their lives.”
