WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 24! Excitement is building for fans of American Idol as season 24 gears up for a special ’90s-themed episode titled the Judges’ Song Contest, set to air on April 6. This season has already seen its share of drama, notably when the Top 14 contestants showcased their talents during Songs of Faith Night. An unexpected twist left audiences hanging when the announcement of the Top 12 was delayed. Due to the overwhelming response on social media, a timely count of votes proved impossible, pushing the reveal to the following week.
In the upcoming Judges’ Song Contest, the Top 12 will vie for coveted spots in the Top 11, who will then perform on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night scheduled for April 13. Judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan will each select a song for the contestants, keeping their choices a secret. Contestants will pick from these selections without knowing which judge chose each song. The judge whose songs are picked most frequently emerges victorious in the contest, gaining the potential power to save one of the bottom two contestants from elimination.
Historically, the Judges’ Song Contest has seen various winners. Former judge Katy Perry and Luke Bryan took the title in season 20, with Katy claiming victory in seasons 21 and 22, while Lionel Richie and Luke shared the honors in season 23. After being edged out by Lionel and Luke in her debut last season, Carrie Underwood is undoubtedly eager to claim the top spot this year.
Past winners of the American Idol Judges’ Song Contest were former judge Katy Perry and Luke (season 20), Katy (seasons 21 & 22), and Lionel and Luke (season 23). Carrie was shut out by Lionel and Luke during her first contest last season, so she’ll surely be eager to take home the win this year.
