The Los Angeles Police Department is treating their deaths as a homicide case.
LOS ANGELES — Actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner, aged 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were discovered deceased on Sunday at a residence in Los Angeles owned by Reiner. This information comes from a law enforcement official familiar with the case, as reported by the Associated Press.
Authorities suspect they died from stab wounds, and a family member is currently being questioned by investigators.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and official information is limited at this point.
A representative for the Reiner family confirmed the passing of Rob Reiner and his wife on Sunday evening.
Reiner, 78, was long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”
He is son to Carl Reiner who is described as a “legend of American comedy” on his IMDb profile.
Rob Reiner also directed and starred in the documentary “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life,” which was nominated for two Emmys in 2024.
He had a recurring role as Michael ‘Meathead’ Stivic in “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker, which launched his career into its current success. Reiner played the character in 185 episodes from 1971 to 1979, according to his IMDb profile.

Reiner was one of the film industry’s most passionate Democrat activists, regularly hosting fundraisers and campaigning for liberal issues. He was co-founder of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which challenged in court California’s ban on same-sex marriage, Proposition 8. He also chaired the campaign for Prop 10, a California initiative to fund early childhood development services with a tax on tobacco products. Reiner was also a critic of President Donald Trump.

The couple have three children, Jake, 34; Nick, 32; and Romy, 28. Rob Reiner has a fourth child, Tracy Reiner, 61, who he adopted from his first marriage with Penny Marshall.
