In a tragic incident, an American soldier who perished in an Iranian assault in Jordan is being celebrated for her “life of courage and selflessness.”
The Department of War has confirmed that Sgt. Angel Rampersad, a 28-year-old from Ozone Park, New York, was among three soldiers who were “killed in action on July 17, 2026,” during an enemy onslaught at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. Following the attack, CENTCOM stated the soldiers were defending against Iranian missile and drone strikes alongside partner forces.
“Sgt. Rampersad demonstrated immense courage and selflessness throughout her life. Her contributions make both New York and our nation safer,” remarked New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “Her sacrifice should be remembered, and we must hold her loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.”
Hochul further expressed condolences, stating, “My heart is with her family, friends, and fellow soldiers who stood with her during this profound loss.”
The Department of War reiterated that “Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, is believed to have been killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, Jordan.” (10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command)
The Department of War said the incident leading to Rampersad’s death is under investigation and that she was previously identified as missing. The other two soldiers believed to have been killed in the attack were identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. They were in Jordan supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the international campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump wrote Monday on Truth Social. “This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.”
Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were also “killed in action” in Jordan, according to the U.S. Army. (U.S. Army)
Rampersad was assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52d Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Ansbach, Germany, and served as a 25U Signal Operations Support Specialist, according to the Department of War.
“Today, we mourn the loss of Sgt. Angel Rampersad,” Brig. Gen. Glenn Henke, commanding general of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, said in a statement. “We extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to her family and all those who are navigating this unimaginable loss. The 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command is grieving, and we will continue to support one another as we process this tragedy.”

The Department of War said Rampersad enlisted in the Army in March 2019 and earned awards including the “Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.”
