In a shocking incident in Jersey City, five women sustained burns following an alleged sulfuric acid attack by two individuals on a moped, as reported by officials.
The attack unfolded on Monday night on Wilkinson Avenue when the suspects drove by and flung the corrosive liquid at the women, according to statements from Mayor James Solomon and local news outlets.
Investigators suspect that this brutal assault was a targeted act, potentially connected to a previous altercation.
Following the attack, the women were quickly transported to nearby hospitals. They suffered from burns and skin irritation but fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, according to WABC. The victims’ identities have not been released.
All five women are currently in stable condition.
“My thoughts are with those hurt in this horrific attack, and I want our communities to know that violence like this has absolutely no place on our streets,” Solomon said in a statement on Facebook.
“I have directed JCPD to use its full resources on the investigation, and to ensure that our officers work around the clock to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
