Hunter Biden mocked Donald Trump Jr. and his new wife, Bettina, over their lavish wedding celebration, which was partly financed by a Russian oligarch the couple has described as a “dear friend.”
The Trumps acknowledged Tuesday that Umar Kremlev, a friend of Vladimir Putin, had contributed to the cost of their nuptials after reports emerged a day earlier.
Bettina Trump responded to the speculation Monday by sharing a collection of previously unseen wedding photographs and referring to the Russian national as “our dear friend Umar.”
Hunter Biden, who has previously accused the other president’s son, Don Jr., of corruption, seized on the controversy in a social media post aimed at the newly married couple.
“Don Jr needed a Russian oligarch, two islands, and a fireworks show,” he wrote. “I got married on the rooftop of an apartment building in West Hollywood. It was so much cooler.”
His post included a photograph of Biden holding Melissa Cohen, whom he married in 2019, within 10 days of their first meeting.
The South African activist wed Hunter in Los Angeles on May 16 that year, only weeks after reports said he had ended his two-year relationship with Hallie Biden, the widow of his late brother Beau, in April.
Don Jr., the eldest son of the current president, married the 39-year-old socialite at a Palm Beach ceremony in late May before the couple traveled to the Caribbean for an upscale reception.

Donald Trump did not attend the wedding, citing national security responsibilities as the war with Iran escalated. Tensions in the Middle East also forced the couple to dramatically scale back their White House wedding plans.
Kremlev, a wealthy oligarch and friend of Russian President Putin, partially funded the couple’s nuptials, according to a report on Monday.
He allegedly helped the Trumps financially, including the rent of private island Little Pipe Key, paying for a fireworks show and hundreds of thousands of dollars in other expenses.
Kremlev’s team also planned the wedding party, according to nonprofit news site ProPublica.
Bettina said Kremlev ‘very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us’ before making clear that the party he paid for was ‘after our wedding.’
The couple had 18 guests at the ceremony and 50 people at the reception.
She ended the fiery statement by telling her followers: ‘Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda.’

Bettina wrote on Instagram on Monday: ‘Don and I got married privately on Friday, surrounded ONLY by our family.
‘It was intimate, deeply personal and one of the most beautiful days of our lives.
‘The weekend that followed had actually been planned well in advance as a fun weekend with friends.
‘It was never intended to be our wedding weekend. When our original wedding plans changed, we simply decided to get married before it and arrived at an already planned weekend as newlyweds.
‘Our dear friend Umar very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding. It was an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend, and something for which we were and remain incredibly grateful.
‘It’s unfortunate that something so personal and happy can be recast as something political or sinister simply because of who someone is or where they come from. Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda. And sometimes a wedding gift is simply a wedding gift.
‘We are fortunate to have wonderful friends from all over the world, and we will never be embarrassed or apologetic about being grateful for them.

The couple celebrated their wedding with Don Jr’s siblings, Eric, 42, and Ivanka, 44, who went with them to the Bahamas.
A spokesperson for Eric said in a statement he ‘has absolutely no clue who this person is, nor has he ever heard his name.’
The revelation of the Russian businessman bankrolling Don Jr’s lavish wedding afterparties is now drawing scrutiny from House Oversight Democrats.
The couple’s marriage certificate, obtained by the Daily Mail, shows that they officially became husband and wife in a secret ceremony held at the West Palm Beach home of Bettina’s sister, Kristina McPherson.
The model said she would be taking the Trump surname.
The private island where the couple celebrated has a private airstrip with its own customs clearance for the private jet crowd and is described as a ‘members only sanctuary’ for visitors enjoying the villa estates and private yacht facilities.
Personalized butler services are another hallmark, along with the pristine and uncrowded beaches.

Although one distinguishing factor may not be to the couple’s taste, especially considering the war on drug cartels being waged by the father of the groom.
The tiny island once served as the headquarters of drug warlord Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel, with his kingpin Carlos Lehder using it as a smuggling base between 1978 and 1982.
Their private nuptials come after the couple had initially pushed their wedding date to the fall, fearing a blowout wedding bash during the Iran conflict would hand critics an easy shot at Don Jr’s father.
But with no end to the war in sight, the couple opted not to keep waiting, instead holding a smaller wedding in Palm Beach followed by an island celebration for close family and friends over Memorial Day weekend.
A source previously said at the time: ‘They’re waiting for the right moment because of what’s happening in the world.’
Another insider revealed just before the Caribbean ceremony: ‘Bettina and Don Jr are very anxious to maintain secrecy over this. They had the engagement at Camp David, which was really controlled. And they want to maintain that level of control with the wedding.
‘I think this is something they just want to get through, get it done. So they can get on with their lives, move on to the next chapters for all the things they want to achieve.’
The couple got engaged in December 2025 – exactly a year after the Daily Mail’s explosive photos of them coming out of a Palm Beach restaurant holding hands before they went public.
This was incontrovertible proof of our earlier exclusive revelation that they were indeed a newly-minted item, despite Don Jr still being officially engaged to fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The Daily Mail reached out to Don Jr for comment and has not heard back.
