ICE agent who killed Renee Nicole Good is now a millionaire

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good has recently become a millionaire, thanks to a large influx of donations from crowdfunding platforms.

Officer Jonathan ‘Jon’ Ross, aged 43, has accumulated over $1 million through contributions from supporters via GoFundMe and GiveSendGo. It is important to note that these fundraising campaigns were initiated independently of Ross himself.

The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Clyde Emmons, has garnered upward of $747,000. Emmons described Good as a “domestic terrorist” and asserted that Ross was “1000 percent justified” in the shooting, stating Ross deserved financial support.

On GiveSendGo, campaign creator Tom Hennessey labeled Good as “a radical leftist agitator” and appealed to “America First patriots” to back Ross, whom he described as “fearless” for acting in self-defense. This campaign has successfully raised more than $279,000.

While the majority of the over 21,000 donations were made anonymously, prominent billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who has expressed support for Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential bid, stands out as the top donor on the GoFundMe platform.

Ackman gifted $10,000 to the agent and, in a post on X, described the shooting as a ‘tragedy.’ The Pershing Square CEO added that he tried to support a fundraiser for Good’s family, but it was already closed after reaching more than $1.5 million.

FBI investigators are conducting a thorough inquiry into the fatal shooting of Good, although sources close to the investigation suggested that Ross is ‘increasingly unlikely’ to face criminal charges.

The civil rights division of the Department of Justice, which typically investigates police-involved shootings, has not opened a probe into whether Ross violated Good’s rights under federal law, an insider told the New York Times.

Federal investigators are reportedly investigating Good’s possible connections with activist groups protesting Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The DOJ is reportedly planning to look into a wide group of activists who took part in a Minneapolis neighborhood ICE watch activities, believing they were ‘instigators’ of the shooting.

It remains unclear whether Good, a 37-year-old mother-of-three, was involved in any activism in Minneapolis besides participating in the protest against ICE actions on the day that she was killed.

Good’s family has hired Chicago-based firm Romanucci & Blandin, which represented George Floyd’s family, to conduct a civil investigation into the deadly shooting.

The firm – which helped secure a $27 million settlement for Floyd’s family – said it will release information in the coming weeks.

The Good family is accusing federal immigration officers of killing her and, in a statement Wednesday, said they want remembered as ‘an agent of peace’. They also urged the public not to use her death as a political flashpoint.

Similarly, Ross has sought legal counsel from Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Chris Madel, KSTP reported.

Madel confirmed his involvement in the case to the outlet. He also pointed out that Ross has applied for legal representation under federal regulations and, if necessary, would likely by defended by DOJ officials.

The Trump administration has defended the ICE officer’s actions, saying he fired in self-defense while standing in front of Good’s vehicle as it began to move forward.

That explanation has been panned by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and others based on videos of the confrontation.

Ross suffered internal bleeding to his torso during the encounter on January 7, the Trump administration confirmed to the Daily Mail on Wednesday.

The extent of his condition remains unclear, as internal bleeding can also be classified as a bruise or contusion that causes mild or serious injury.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said he was taken to the hospital afterward and released the same day.

In addition to the main fundraisers on both GoFundMe and GiveSendGo, Ross’s supporters have established several other campaigns in his honor, although those have not received nearly as many donations.

GiveSendGo co-founder Jacob Wells did confirm that all campaigns on his platform will go directly to Ross, noting that some funds from his site have already been released to the officer.

It is unclear if the same applies with the GoFundMe campaigns. The Daily Mail has contacted the fundraising site for comment, with a spokesperson recently saying they only usually suspended campaigns for people who have been charged with a crime.

Wells also blasted other crowdfunding sites for allegedly censoring the types of fundraisers that are permitted on their platforms.

‘I can confidently say that a key reason the fundraising campaign for the ICE agent on GoFundMe continues to be allowed is because GiveSendGo exists,’ he tweeted.

‘Our competitors have a history of canceling law enforcement fundraisers who were caught in similar difficult moments. There was a time when they thought they could cancel anyone with impunity. That time has ended. Now they know better as they continue to lose market share to us.’

Video of the deadly shooting quickly became highly politicized, with one side saying Good was intentionally trying to hit Ross with her car, and the other saying she was just trying to drive away.

Good’s partner Rebecca Good and other relatives claimed that the couple had just dropped off their 6-year-old child at school on January 7 and stopped to observe the law enforcement activity.

Footage shows a red SUV driven by Renee Good sitting perpendicular and blocking part of the road. She is pressing the horn repeatedly.

A short time later, a truck carrying immigration officers pulls up, two get out and one of them orders Good to open her door. She reverses briefly, then turns the steering wheel toward the passenger side as the officer says again, ‘get out of the car.’

Almost simultaneously, Rebecca, standing on the passenger side and trying to open the door, shouts, ‘drive, baby, drive!’ The SUV pulls forward and gunshots are heard as an officer who in front of the vehicle opens fire.

She was then shot in the face before crashing her car. Ross seen walking away after the incident.

Rebecca released a statement to Minnesota Public Radio on Friday saying the couple had stopped to support their neighbors: ‘We had whistles. They had guns.’

She has referred to Renee Good as her wife. But Romanucci & Blandin has since said Renee and Becca were ‘not legally married but were committed partners dedicated to their family.’

Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have claimed that Good was allegedly after Ross that day, and that she committed ‘domestic terrorism’ and was a ‘professional agitator.’

But on Monday, Good’s grieving family said that was not at all who she was, and that she does not have a criminal past, as many online users have alleged.

‘I’ve been pretty quiet about this, because I wanted to wait until our family could piece together a statement… and it is finally published. You never think the passing of a loved one will be high profile… or a massively divisive, political topic,’ Morgan Fletcher, Good’s sister-in-law, posted on Facebook.

‘And we’ve seen the false claims and the wrong Renee Good’s info being posted (criminal history? She didn’t have one),’ Fletcher, who is related to Good’s late ex-husband, Timmy Macklin Jr, said.
