The Broward County Sheriff’s Office identified the individuals on Monday as two boys – 16-year-old Elvis Borques Castillo and 18-year-old Jeik Aniluz Lusi.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Two people who were found dead inside the landing gear of a JetBlue plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in January have been identified.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office identified the individuals on Thursday as two teenage males— 16-year-old Elvis Borques Castillo and 18-year-old Jeik Aniluz Lusi. Lusi would have turned 19 Monday.
The sheriff’s office said Elvis and Lusi were from the Dominican Republic and that it confirmed their identities following “extensive DNA testing.”
The sheriff’s office did not say how Elvis and Lusi ended up in the compartment of the plane nor their cause of death, but noted that the sheriff’s office is still gathering details.
What happened?
Two people – now identified as Elvis and Lusi – were found dead in a JetBlue plane’s landing gear compartment at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Jan. 6.
According to NBC News, the JetBlue flight, Flight 1801, took off from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport that evening at 7:49 p.m. and landed in South Florida at 11:10 p.m.
Officials stated that the two were found during a routine inspection.
“This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred,” JetBlue said in a statement.
