BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man who was found fatally shot in a west Birmingham home was identified Thursday morning.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald with the Birmingham Police Department said that around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call of a person shot inside what is believed to be an abandoned house in the 3200 block of Avenue S. At the scene, officers found a man shot inside the house. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Fitzgerald said according to a preliminary investigation, there was a fight inside the house between the victim and the suspect. Police think the suspect shot the victim. Fitzgerald said there may have been criminal activity taking place inside the house before the shooting.
