Police say the shooter’s mother was a deputy and her weapon was found at the scene. Here’s what else we know at this time.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Leon County Sheriff’s Office has identified the accused gunman in the deadly shooting on the Florida State University campus Thursday.

Sheriff Walter McNeil named the shooter as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, an FSU student.

He is the son of Deputy Jessica Ikner. LCSO says she has been with the force for 18 years.

She is pictured in several LCSO social media posts.

Phoenix Ikner was listed online as a member of LCSO’s Youth Advisory Council for 2021-2022.

LCSO said Jessica Ikner left a service weapon unattended and that gun was found at the scene.

Property records show that Phoenix Ikner lives with his mother and father in Tallahassee.

In January, he was quoted in an FSUNews.com commenting on a rally on campus, which spoke out against President Donald Trump’s policies and Israel’s war in Gaza, among other things.

He told a reporter, “These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons… I think it’s a little too late, he’s [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there’s not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don’t think anyone wants that.”

The article identifies Phoenix Ikner as a political science major.

Police have not released a photo of Ikner at this time.

The shooting injured six people, who were taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, and killed two. Phoenix Ikner was also reportedly shot by police, and has non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have confirmed the two victims were not FSU students.
