CHICAGO ( ) Kat Abughazaleh, a congressional candidate from Illinois, is among six individuals facing federal conspiracy charges related to a protest at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing center located in the suburbs of Broadview. This was revealed in a social media post by the Democrat on Wednesday.

Abughazaleh claimed that the charges are a result of their group exercising its “First Amendment rights” near the ICE facility, a hotspot for confrontations between demonstrators and federal officers.

A video capturing an incident where Abughazaleh was forcibly thrown to the ground by a federal agent gained widespread attention online following the September protest at the Broadview location.
