A Chicago man faces charges after allegedly robbing a staff member at knifepoint in the Oak Park office of Illinois Senate President Don Harmon, as revealed by court records.

The incident took place on Friday at the state senator’s office located on North Avenue. According to the documents, the suspect, identified as Scott Loeffer, brandished a knife and threatened a female staff member before stealing her iPhone.

Loeffer has been formally charged with armed robbery in connection with the event.

Senate President Harmon, a Democrat serving Illinois’ 39th District, released a statement confirming that the staff member involved was unharmed. He also noted that the robbery does not seem to have any political motivations.

Harmon, a Democrat who represents Illinois’ 39th District, issued a statement, saying the victim, a staffer, was not injured. He added that the incident does not appear to have been politically motivated.

“On Friday, a man entered the district office and confronted an employee with a knife. Thank God she is physically unharmed. The suspect is in custody and charged with armed robbery.

This incident does not appear to have been politically motivated.

I want to thank the Oak Park Police Department for a quick response, and I want to thank my staff for their bravery and unwavering commitment to public service. Their safety is my top priority.”
