BROOKVILLE, Ind. – An Indiana elementary school canceled in-person classes on Wednesday and Thursday due to a large number of illnesses.

According to Superintendent Dustin Gehring with Franklin County Community School Corporation, Brookville Elementary School will employ e-learning days on both days.

In a message posted on the district’s Facebook page, Gehring said he made the decision in consultation with the county health department in response to “excessive illness.” The hope is that the temporary pause on in-person classes will stop the cycle of illnesses and prevent any further spread. It will also give anyone who’s sick some time to recover at home.

The superintendent asked parents to watch for symptoms related to strep throat or other issues.

All other FCCSC schools were scheduled to operate as usual.

“I know this can be difficult for families, so we are also offering to excuse any absence for older siblings that need to stay home and help,” Gehring wrote. “Please communicate with FCHS or FCMS so the absence can be logged correctly.”
