WASHINGTON (WLS) — ABC7 has learned that several dozen Indiana state lawmakers attended a four-hour meeting with Trump administration officials on Tuesday afternoon.

ABC7 is told that most of that time was spent discussing policy, including Medicare, Medicaid, immigration, and other issues.

And at the end, with Vice President JD Vance in the room, there was a discussion about redrawing Indiana’s congressional map.

Republicans currently hold seven of Indiana’s nine House seats, so the GOP could only flip up to two additional seats. But one Indiana state representative who attended the meeting says that effort would be worth it.

“As a person who believes in my party’s vision, I think we should do everything, we should use every tool available to further that agenda, and I don’t think that we can do that if we lose the House,” said state Rep. Craig Haggard, R-central Indiana.

Democrats and their supporters gathered outside the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday to protest that possible redistricting effort, which would require a special session, likely in the fall.

“This type of power that they’re trying to take away from the people, this is not who we are. This is not what democracy is, and this is not what the people of our state want,” said state Rep. Mike Andrade, D-northwest Indiana.

That White House meeting comes days after Texas lawmakers passed a new congressional map that could help Republicans gain five seats, and as California prepares to put a new map in front of voters that could give Democrats five additional seats, as well.

And back in Illinois, Gov. JB Pritzker has said redistricting is also on the table.
