NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The staff at a Printer’s Alley bar were forced to lock the doors early Tuesday morning after a man brandished a knife when he was denied entry, according to authorities.

Officers responded to MJ’s Chill Spot on Church Street around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after a bystander reported the situation.

Officers arrived to find Zeddrick Sherrell, 38, in the middle of Church Street, waving his arms and shouting, according to court documents. As they attempted to place him under arrest, he resisted but was ultimately brought into custody.

According to authorities, the bar staff told officers that Sherrell visited the bar before the incident and acted normally. When he returned less than an hour later, however, he was denied at the door because of his “extremely intoxicated” state.

After being told to leave the property by security guards, Sherrell allegedly started arguing with the guard and pulled out a butterfly knife, at which point the guard locked Sherrell out of the building.

A bystander allegedly recorded the incident and called emergency services. According to reports, the recording showed Sherrell pulling out a knife and tapping on the glass while shouting.

When officers searched Sherrell, they allegedly recovered a knife and 28 grams of marijuana. It was reported that he showed signs of extreme intoxication during an interview with investigators.

Sherrell was charged with felony vandalism, felony retaliation for past action, felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor vandalism, misdemeanor controlled substance possession, misdemeanor public intoxication, misdemeanor resisting arrest and two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $38,000.
