First responders carefully rescued a patient who was trapped in the rocks, dangerously wedged in between the Pacific Coast Highway and a thin shoreline on Monday night.

Crews responded at around 7:45 p.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department, toward the edge of Thornhill Broom Beach.

Dramatic images posted by VCFD on X show at least eight first responders securing the patient on a stretcher while over a dozen onlookers peer down from the PCH.

The fire department explained that when crews arrived, they learned that the patient’s leg had somehow gotten trapped by a large rock that had shifted.

Details are limited, and officials did not immediately say why the individual was on the rocks or how long they remained trapped. In addition, the patient’s identity was not provided.

“Using specialized extrication tools, firefighters were able to carefully free the patient,” read VCFD’s post, “and they were transported to a local trauma center in stable condition.”

The department said helping hands in this technical rescue came from the Oxnard Fire Department, Federal Fire, Ventura CHP and California State Parks.

“Thank you to all of our local agency partners for their teamwork, technical expertise and professionalism during this challenging rescue,” concluded VCFD.
