Influencer gets backlash after whining about child using bathroom

A New York City influencer has faced backlash after posting what many are calling a ‘tone-deaf’ complaint about airplane bathrooms not being child-friendly enough.

Victoria Maria Yavnyi, who goes by the username ‘toriyav’ on TikTok, sparked outrage when she whined about her toddler’s uncomfortable flight experience.

The controversial video shows Victoria awkwardly cradling her visibly uncomfortable toddler in a cramped, blue-lit airplane bathroom while filming with her phone appearing to be propped on the toilet seat.

In the video, the mom suggested airlines should redesign their facilities to accommodate young children, sparking a heated online debate in the comments.

‘Can I start a petition to make more kid friendly bathrooms on the plane? Because my toddler held her pee for five hours because she was terrified of the bathroom,’ she wrote in the video.

‘NGL (not going to lie) so was I,’ Victoria continued in the post.

The video has since garnered over 300,000 likes but also thousands of critical comments.

The mother added to her complaints, writing: ‘Didn’t help that the light didn’t work so it felt like we were in a night club.’

The post quickly went viral, with viewers rushing to the comments to slam the influencer.

Many called out her video as an out-of-touch demand from a privileged parent.

‘No. Hope this helps!’ replied one commenter.

The blunt response received thousands of supportive likes.

Another user pointed out a simple solution to one of Victoria’s complaints: ‘If you lock the door the light turns on,’ they explained.

The sarcastic comment suggested the influencer may have failed to properly secure the lavatory door during her visit which is why the bathroom light was failing to turn on.

Several commenters also pointed out an issue with Victoria apparently filming or preparing to film her child in the bathroom.

‘I also would scream if my mom tried to record me going to the bathroom,’ one user commented.

Another wrote: ‘I’d also not pee, if it’s being recorded.’

The backlash continued as parents criticized Victoria’s approach to the situation, with many suggesting alternative solutions rather than expecting airlines to modify their aircraft.

‘Lmao can we normalize teaching our kids to not be afraid of toilets,’ wrote one parent.

The user suggested that the responsibility lies with parents to prepare their children for different situations rather than expecting the world to adapt to them.

Some responses were more aggressive with one user writing: ‘How about travel without your kid! Or grand idea…drive or just don’t go!’

Another commenter gave the influencer a ‘reality check’ about air travel expectations.

‘Let me explain this, clearly. Airplanes are not meant to be a home. They only have to provide necessities, like a bathroom, seat, snacks and water. They have to meet safety criteria for size and weight, and all the necessities have to be put into that space,’ they wrote.

‘Airplanes are not large person friendly. They are not bathroom friendly. They are not sensory-challenged friendly. They aren’t much anything friendly, lol. But, it is what it is.’

They concluded with advice that many felt was directed not just at Victoria’s parenting approach but her overall worldview.’

‘So, you are gonna have to teach your child, in the way she learns best, that life cannot happen on her terms all the time. To teach her this, you must also need to learn it.’

Many also pointed out the number one issue airlines should focus on is safety.

This comes after multiple major airline incidents in the past few months.

Victoria has yet to respond to the wave of criticism, though her original post remains online despite the backlash.

Her previous content has focused on luxury travel experiences and parenting products.

Just this month, another plane passenger stirred up drama online after she shared her outrage when airport security threatened to throw out her skincare products as she was over the liquid limit allowed to take on board as hand luggage.

The content creator, Jules, was traveling from Vancouver International Airport in Canada when she was pulled aside by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority for being over the liquid limit.

The fuming traveler took to TikTok to share her irritation, showing her makeup bags on the counter with the CATSA agent, who was inspecting all of her products.

‘When security pulls you over and threatens to throw away all of your makeup and hair products that are literally trial size??’ Jules wrote on the video.

However, commenters have shot back at the creator, arguing it’s a common rule – particularly when traveling internationally.

In a comment, Jules shared that she has been on ‘over 100 flights with all this stuff in a carry on and never have been stopped before’, and was confused why she had been stopped now.

She went on to explain that, ‘nobody in America or Europe has ever said anything to me when I’ve had this same stuff in my carry on.’

According to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, all liquid, aerosol, and gel products must be sealed in a one-liter plastic bag.
