Bojan Bogdanovic's season-ending injury ruins Nets buyout chances

Nets wing Bojan Bogdanovic will have foot surgery and miss the rest of the season.

The news, first reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Post, indicates that Bogdanovic will not play for Brooklyn this season and is also unlikely to become a buyout candidate.

He hasn’t played since last April 28 when he was with the Knicks in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Bogdanovic suffered a left foot injury during Game 4 of the Knicks’ series win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

He had already been suffering from a wrist injury, and had surgery to repair both.

Following the surgery, Bogdanovic was used as salary filler in the Mikal Bridges trade, which resulted in Bridges joining the Knicks and Brooklyn receiving a record-tying five first-round picks.

But Bogdanovic never suited up for the Nets, and had only recently progressed to even doing on-court work, still nowhere near playing.

The deadline for waived players to sign with a team and be eligible for the playoffs is fast approaching on March 1.

If Bogdanovic had held out hope of landing elsewhere, the Nets could have worked out a buyout on the rest of his $19 million expiring deal.

That would have not only opened up a roster spot but also freed up some cap space, what they did with Ben Simmons.

Now that seems off the table, with Bogdanovic out for season.

He turns 36 on April 18, holding career averages of 15.6 points on 46 percent shooting from the field and 39.4 percent from deep.

Bogdanovic and De’Anthony Melton are both out for the season. Waiving either or both would create a roster space, though not open any cap space.

The Nets are planning on sending two-way Reece Beekman down to G League Long Island to get him some minutes, a source told The Post.

Since being acquired from Golden State on Dec. 15 in the Dennis Schroder deal, the young guard had averaged 2.2 points in 10.9 minutes over 20 games for Brooklyn.
