Gregory Laughton Miller was completing a 120-day sentence.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An inmate at the Duval County Jail died Friday after being hospitalized following a medical emergency.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Gregory Laughton Miller, 52, was taken to the clinic at the jail Thursday around 8 p.m. after he appeared to be in medical distress. Due to his deteriorating condition, emergency medical responders were contacted, and he was transported to a local hospital for further care, JSO said.

Miller later died Friday at the hospital.

JSO says an investigation is ongoing, with Cold Case Unit detectives handling the case. At this time, no foul play is suspected, and there are no reported incidents involving Miller and other inmates or correctional officers prior to his hospitalization.

Miller had been serving a 120-day sentence at the Duval County Jail, which began on Feb. 26. His sentence stemmed from an arrest on April 11, 2023, on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public. After posting bond on April 13, 2023, Miller remained out of custody until his sentencing.
