Victoria Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s dynamic has dramatically shifted from being close-knit companions to a strained and distant connection, ultimately severed by a startling revelation from Brooklyn Beckham.

What once was a warm friendship has now ended in silence, following the escalation of a conflict involving Brooklyn and his family, which erupted into a full-blown crisis seemingly overnight.

Brooklyn’s assertions about his family have garnered significant attention, but they have also brought Nicola’s relationship with her mother-in-law, Victoria, into sharper focus.

Initially, the relationship between the two seemed far from tense, as evidenced by their ‘playful and affectionate’ interactions captured in various clips before the family discord emerged.

Nevertheless, body language specialist Judi James has analyzed how the relationship unraveled, highlighting Brooklyn’s futile attempts to satisfy ‘both Queen Bees in his life,’ which ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Reflecting on Brooklyn’s statement itself, she told Daily Mail: ‘Brooklyn’s statement includes several clues to a rather passive/aggressive behavioural coping style, best defined as ‘store it up, save it and let it stew before serving it’.

‘So, was that what the fans were being served in the earlier body language poses between Nicola and Victoria, when things were looking frosty, fraught and a little less than idyllic, or was the playful joy of their more recent poses the actual fake news? 

‘Because the body language narrative we’ve been shown of this relationship appears to define waves of growing closeness, warmth and even strong friendship after earlier signals of awkwardness, division and perma-frost.’

In the wake of Brooklyn’s statement, a 2023 clip emerged that showed a stony-faced Nicola posing with Brooklyn’s family at the premiere of David Beckham’s Netflix docuseries.

The video offered a hint at tensions brewing behind the scenes, with Judy echoing this point by noting how the actress looked ‘uncomfortable’ and was attempting to ‘cold-shoulder’ the family .

She said: ‘An air of frost appeared to have descended early, as this family line-up grouping of the new, extended Beckham family appeared rather off-brand in terms of emotional unity and closeness. 

‘Victoria, David et al were posing up a red-carpet storm here and Brooklyn and Nicola went to join them. 

‘Nicola glanced at Victoria as though questioning how to pose or how she was going to be included but there was no place at the bosom of the family, instead she was placed down at the end of the line-up.

‘The following rituals seemed to show a sandwich-filling Brooklyn trying to please both the Queen Bees in his life, leaning in behind his mother with the signature fixed social smile for the cameras while throwing out gestural bread-crumbs to lure Nicola in to pose close beside him. 

‘You can hear the photographers calling out for a move to the middle here but Nicola appeared reluctant and its Brooklyn placing a hand round her waist to gently coax her into a nice cosy huddle.

‘Nicola’s unsmiling facial expression made her appear reluctant and uncomfortable. She pushed her chin into the air but only seemed to manage a lifting of the upper lip to hint at a weak smile. 

‘Brooklyn was even walking backwards into the lineup at one point, to apparently lure her in gently, but his hand on his waistband suggested some inner awkwardness or anxiety here. 

‘Victoria’s chosen pose didn’t slip and, with her torso turning slightly inward towards her husband, the look (unfairly) was suggested to be one of cold-shouldering the couple here.’

By the time Victoria and Nicola posed together again at the premiere of the actress’ film Lola, it seems they were trying to dispel rumours of a feud.

At the time, rumours were rife that all was not well in the Beckham clan, with claims Victoria and Nicola had fallen out after the former pulled out of designer her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress.

The pair’s attempts to maintain that relations were friendly were evident, with Judi noting: ‘The two women gave a red-carpet performance of playful affection here. Nicola looked excited to be with Victoria and her gestures and body language suggested no ounce of reservation about being anything but relaxed in her company.

‘Her poses give off vibes of being a non-verbal ‘disruptor’ here, throwing one arm around Victoria’s neck and letting it dangle there as though she was hanging with one of her besties.

‘The arm looked proprietorial and she appeared to be gently flaunting their relationship as though happy to boast to the press about her pride in her fabulous trophy mother-in-law.

Reacting to a clip of Victoria and Nicola dancing together to a Spice Girls hit, Judi said this only helped to ‘drive’ the narrative that they were still close after rumours of a family feud

‘Nicola’s wide, teeth-baring grin came with her chin pushed out towards the cameras to register that pride in Victoria, but it might need to go on record that Victoria was not matching the energy or the playfulness of Nicola.

‘Victoria’s poses are legendary and very much part of the brand. Her response to the casualness of Nicole was to adhere to her chosen pose, coping with the hanging arm disruption by gently clutching Nicole’s fingers. 

‘Nicole looked here like the wave of playful energy blasting through the Beckham brand and maybe melting Victoria’s constant desire for pose perfection.’

Victoria and Nicola’s public displays of family continued when the pair danced along to the Spice Girls hit Wannabe at the Lola premiere party in 2024.

Judi noted that this only helped to drive the ‘narrative’ that Victoria and Nicola were close, saying: ‘Poses of the two women partying together seemed to plug the ”besties” narrative. 

‘Nicole and Victoria were burning up the dancefloor together, throwing their arms in the air and enjoying each other’s company.

‘Only one photo gave possible clues to a more territorial approach when Nicole stood talking to Brooklyn and his mother and Victoria appeared to have an arm of ownership around her son’s neck as he stood laughing.’

In happier times, Victoria also shared a video of Nicola dancing with her on the beach to celebrate her 29th birthday in 2024.

‘Happy birthday @NicolaAnnePeltzBeckham… We love you so much!! Your love, kindness, talent and your ability to dance on sand in a major wedge!!

‘The best dance partner and loving daughter in law. We love you, have an amazing day!!!!! Xxxxxx,’ the designer wrote.

Judi noted that at this time it seemed the pair were displaying the ‘ultimate act of friendship and closeness.’

She said: ‘These video clips showed us two women in what might be the ultimate act of friendship and closeness. 

‘As the sun is going down and apparently alone on an idyllic beach, they dance together like besties on a hen night in Brighton. 

‘There is no filter and no inhibitions, they both look infused with the joy of being alive and having fun while the camera appears to monitor them from a furtive distance. The signals here are of trust and uninhibited shared fun. 

‘For fans of the Victoria Beckham granite poses it was good to see her letting her hair down and relaxing.’

While this final clip seemed to show Nicola and Victoria’s relationship in far happier times, relations have signficantly broken down since then.

Brooklyn took to Instagram on Monday night to share a six-page statement where he said he has no wish to reconcile with his family.

Brooklyn and his wife Nicola have been at the heart of the acrimonious divide that has resulted in them snubbing all significant family celebrations over recent months, including his father David’s milestone 50th birthday and knighthood.

The chef went as far as to say he has been ‘controlled by a family that values public promotion above all else’ and that since being with his wife Nicola, he has found ‘peace and relief’ after battling crippling anxiety.

Brooklyn also claimed Victoria, who has her own fashion brand, cancelled making Nicola’s wedding dress at the ‘eleventh hour’ and hijacked their first dance which left him so ’embarrassed’ they decided to renew their vows without his family last year.

Rumours of tension first emerged after the actress sported a stunning couture Valentino bridal dress, after previous reports she would wear a design from Victoria. 

While Victoria is yet to comment on all the allegations Brooklyn has made about his famous family, David has had to face the public while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos.

While there, David recorded a podcast about ‘resilience, failure, regret and disappointment’, which is expected to be released on Wednesday.

David had looked weary-eyed and struggled to smile minutes before, no doubt full of concern over his son’s very public broadside to his family.
