Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has refuted claims that she was disrespecting President Trump during the recent NATO summit in The Hague.

The Queen claimed she was not poking fun at the president in the widely scrutinized moment, but was thanking someone off camera.

“I said ‘thank you’ to someone who had helped,” she told Dutch news outlet AD.

She said her interactions with the president during his visit were a “pleasant experience.”

During a fleeting moment captured by keen observers online, Maxima was seen standing next to Trump and her spouse King Willem-Alexander. In this moment, it appeared as if she was imitating the president’s speaking mannerisms as they engaged in casual conversation.

CNN editor Vani Mehrotra said in a X post that “Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is believed to be mocking Donald Trump.”

Another netizen thought Maxima was making a “hilarious” dig at Trump.

“I’ve never been a fan of our stiff monarchy, but Queen Maxima rocks it! Treat him like a baby,” they posted.
