An incident at a chic San Francisco eatery co-owned by celebrity chef Joey Altman turned a typical Saturday night into a spectacle when a visibly intoxicated couple clashed with the staff. The altercation, caught on camera, unfolded on the sidewalk outside Hazie’s, drawing attention for all the wrong reasons.
The couple, whose identities remain undisclosed, initially enjoyed a seat within the bustling restaurant. However, their evening took a turn when their apparent drunkenness and abrasive demeanor led the staff to cease serving them. Witness accounts describe their behavior as “harsh,” particularly towards one of the servers.
Miguel Marchese, the bartender who found himself on the receiving end of the altercation, recounted the ordeal to SFGate. “They were verbally abrasive with one of the servers, very harsh with her. You know, just being difficult people,” he explained, emphasizing the clear signs of their intoxication.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges restaurant staff often face, especially in high-profile venues. It highlights the importance of maintaining professionalism in the hospitality industry, even under challenging circumstances.
‘It was evident that they were intoxicated,’ he added.
The couple started arguing with staff after they were refused service.
The woman became so enraged that she ran into the kitchen and behind the bar to yell at employees, Marchese said.

In a drunken slur, the woman began screaming over the bar at the manager after the pair were refused service and asked to leave
Hazie’s bartender, Miguel Marchese, was physically assaulted by the woman in the street after she had to be carried out by him following an intense confrontation inside the restaurant
The woman was seen screaming over the bar at the manager: ‘Alright, the manager and owner at Hazie’s just f***ing harassed me.’
‘Please leave,’ the manager responded.
‘Tell me one more time,’ she asked.
‘I did not touch you. Please leave the restaurant,’ he repeated.
‘Ooooh, he’s a liar too,’ she taunted, before her partner guided her away.
As she was seen stumbling from the bar, she punched away one of the camera’s recording the unfolding scene.
In the middle of the confrontation, Marchese tried to help diffuse the situation.
The bartender, who had lost his voice, began attempting to calm her nonverbally and told the outlet: ‘I’m trying to tell her with my hands, “Okay, let’s just calm down, everybody, time to leave.” And everything just spirals into chaos.’

The drunken woman was seen on video kicking and thrashing as she was lifted out of the venue by Marchese, who was then attacked by her on the sidewalk
The woman’s partner then started pushing at some of the other serves and she also started battling other employees after being slammed to the ground
It was far from over as she walked back across the venue and started attacking one of the staff members.
Her partner tries to separate her from the staff, but not before she appears to physically confront another employee, who was off the clock and sat at the bar.
In a split second the employee slammed her to the ground with a heavy thud in self-defense.
The woman’s partner then started pushing at some of the other serves and she also started battling other employees before the pair were physically restrained and carried out of the restaurant.
Cheers erupted as they were escorted out, but it only escalated as it spilled onto the street.

‘She’s kicking me all over and then she ends up wrapping my hair around her hand,’ Marchese told the outlet.

‘Oh, you want me to let go of your boy?’ she asked. ‘I’m not touching your boy.’
Marchese continued: ‘She weaves it around her hand quite tightly and she pulls on it for dear life. So that was quite a predicament to be stuck in.’
The bartender said he only managed to free himself by throwing her phone down the street so she would chase it ‘like a rabid dog going after a bone,’ he told the outlet.

‘Be a man!’ she yelled at him. ‘Leave me f*** alone.’
As she thrashed and stumbled away, he started pushing another employee in a Santa hat.
The viral video shocked many, but for Marchese, who said he isn’t pressing charges, and many other service workers it was simply another day on the job.
‘This is the life of a bartender,’ he told the outlet.
‘I’ve been a bartender for over eight years. I’ve been slapped, I’ve been degraded, I’ve been given homophobic slurs, I’ve been sexualized… when you work in service for a long time, it fortifies you into a really resilient person.’
