There have been recent rumors circulating about Margot Robbie’s involvement in another biopic featuring a larger-than-life character, which DailyMail.com has investigated to determine the accuracy.

Margot Robbie, known for her role in Barbie and becoming a mother for the first time in October 2024, is reportedly being considered to portray the late Anna Nicole Smith in a biographical film. This project is the brainchild of two of Smith’s close associates.

The Sun revealed on Tuesday that Pol’ Atteu, a fashion designer, and Patrik Simpson, a television producer and Smith’s former friends, are contemplating casting only Margot Robbie for the leading role in the anticipated film about Anna Nicole Smith’s turbulent life.

‘We are eyeing Margot and I think she is our Anna Nicole,’ said Simpson. ‘After we saw the Barbie movie, Margot was at the screening and I said, “That’s our Anna.”

According to Simpson, it was her performance and ‘the way she embodied Barbie’ in the blockbuster comedy that sealed the deal. 

‘Pol’ used to always tease that Anna was the living Barbie. So who better to play her than Margot?’ he continued.

Atteu — who is married to Simpson — added that when the two met Robbie, they ‘felt something electric’ that created ‘such a beautiful moment.’

Representatives for Robbie, Simpson and Atteu have been contacted for comment. 

According to The Sun, Simpson and Atteu have completed a script for their intended film, while Island Illusion Entertainment will allegedly produce.

Smith died on February 8, 2007, of combined drug intoxication at the age of 39. 

While speaking at the Charmaine Blake Academy Award celebration gala in Beverly Hills, Simpson told the publication that Smith was a ‘best friend’ to him and Atteu.

‘Best friends have secrets and we promised Anna we would reveal those secrets,’ he claimed.

Simpson and Atteu’s proposed biopic might have a tough time making it to production, as the market is currently oversaturated with Anna Nicole Smith biopics.

In December 2023, a biopic about the late model and reality star was in production. 

The Blade Runner 2049 actress Sylvia Hoeks, who was cast as Smith, was seen in costume on set, and Holly Hunter and Mark Duplass were reported to be part of the cast.

Few details have been shared about the film since then, but it is listed as being in post-production on its IMDb page. 

In May of 2024, Abbie Cornish was seen on set as Smith in another film charting her drug-fueled spiral at the end of her life, which is based on a book written by the doctor who was charged for supplying her deadly medications — though he was ultimately acquitted of all charges. 

Smith’s life story was previously told in the low-budget 2007 biopic The Anna Nicole Smith Story and the 2013 Lifetime television movie The Anne Nicole Story. 

Robbie has also already starred in her fair share of biopics. After breaking out in 2013 with The Wolf Of Wall Street, her career got a new boost with the release of 2017’s I, Tonya, a critically acclaimed film in which she played the troubled figure skater Tonya Harding.

The same year, she played the wife of Winnie the Pooh writer A. A. Milne in Goodbye Christopher Robin, and in 2018 she played Queen Elizabeth I opposite Saoirse Ronan as the title character in Mary, Queen Of Scots. 

The follow year came another biopic, Bombshell, in which Robbie played a composite character exploring sexual harassment at Fox News.

Smith showed immense promise as a model in the early ’90s, but her court battle over the estate of her husband J. Howard Marshall, who died in 1994 at 90, and other legal issues forced her to file for bankruptcy; seen in 1995 in LA

Charlize Theron also appeared under heavy prosthetics as Megyn Kelly, while Nicole Kidman played Gretchen Carlson. 

Robbie also played another real-life character, the murdered actress Sharon Tate, in Quentin Tarantino’s modern classic Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

However, the portions of Tate’s life depicted were heavily fictionalized, and the film’s notorious climax completely changes the circumstances of Tate’s death at the hands of Charles Manson’s followers.

Anna Nicole Smith’s brief life was filled with promise after she became an in-demand model thanks to a breakout Guess jeans campaign that played up her resemblance to another star who tragically died too young, Jayne Mansfield. 

But Smith’s personal life came to overshadow her professional life after she married the elderly oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall in 1994. 

He died a year later at the age of 90, leaving Anna out of his will, despite widespread assumptions that she had married him for his money. 

She subsequently launched a legal battle to reclaim part of his estate from his heir, but after multiple reversals in various courts going all the way up to the Supreme Court, Smith won nothing from her late husband’s estate and was left with legal bills and court costs of over $1 million. 

Those bills, along with an $850,000 default judgment in a sexual harassment suit filed against her by a nanny who cared for her son, forced her to file for bankruptcy.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Smith had several small film and television roles, but it was The Anna Nicole Show, which ran from 2002 to 2004 on E!, that made her a household name, even as it documented her sometimes bizarre behavior and faltering career. 

Smith gave birth to a son, Daniel Wayne Smith, in 1986. 

In 2006, she gave birth to a daughter, Dannielynn, though her paternity was in question after Smith’s death until a DNA test established that Larry Birkhead was her father. 

Tragically, Anna’s son Daniel died in her hospital room while visiting her three days after she gave birth to her second child. He was later determined to have died as the result of an accidental drug overdose.
