WASHINGTON — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran is prepared to withstand an all-out conflict with the United States, while maintaining that Iran’s preferred path remains a diplomatic resolution.
“We will stand firm against any aggression, even if it leads to a doomsday war,” Araghchi said Sunday during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “But at the same time, we are ready for diplomacy.”
Araghchi described Iran’s proposed seven-day cease-fire as a “very reasonable plan” that remains available, even after President Trump rejected the initiative.
The reported terms called for Washington to release roughly $12 billion in frozen Iranian funds, lift the blockade and reduce sanctions. In return, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump dismissed the proposal as unacceptable, while senior members of his administration argued that it required the United States to offer too many concessions before receiving meaningful commitments from Iran.
“Although we heard President Trump say he is rejecting this deal, we are still waiting for an official response through the mediators,” Araghchi said.
