According to Chicago police, the unfortunate event took place on Saturday morning in the 2000-block of East 103rd Street, situated in the South Deering neighborhood on the city’s Far South Side, just before 8:30 a.m.

The victim, 22-year-old Isis Ogunti, was driving westward when another vehicle approached, and shots were fired from within, as per the police report.

Following the gunfire, both vehicles continued moving until Ogunti’s SUV veered off and collided with a tree. She sustained injuries from the crash and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 28-year-old male passenger in Ogunti’s vehicle was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

The other vehicle’s driver sped away.

Ogunti’s mother says her boyfriend was injured in the shooting, and that her daughter tried to rush to the hospital, and that’s when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree.

Ogunti’s mother says she called her during her final moments alive, but she didn’t know what had already unfolded.

“When I answered the FaceTime, she wasn’t on there. But I saw blue, which I’m assuming now was the sky. Her phone must’ve fell out the car,” mother Kashia Collins said. “I know it was her final moments, and I also know that I’m happy that I was the last call that she made.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Chicago police.
