According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the individual suspected in a recent shooting was already incarcerated on unrelated charges.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A suspect has been apprehended in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
On June 11, 2025, a Wednesday, police were dispatched to the Vista Landing Apartment Complex on Cleveland Road following reports of multiple gunshot victims.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Out of these, three were rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, 18-year-old Marcus Thompson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The sheriff’s office shared that detectives from the JSO Homicide Unit successfully identified 22-year-old Samuel Chaney as the prime suspect in the case.
JSO says that Chaney was arrested on Friday, where he is said to have already been in jail for unrelated charges.
“Our hearts go out to Thompson’s loved ones, and we will continue to seek justice for him,” JSO says.
