A 25-year-old man was killed and a 23-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a local hospital after a shooting at a Southside hotel Feb. 14, JSO said.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is in custody after police said he shot and killed a man at a Southside hotel and injured a pregnant woman on Valentine’s Day, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said Friday morning.
Alvin Gay Jr., 33, was charged with murder, attempted murder, armed burglary with assault or battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.
Just after midnight Feb. 14, officers responded to Hometown Inn & Suites, 4940 Mustang Road, regarding a man shot, who was later pronounced dead. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Francis Bowling Jr.
A 23-year-old pregnant woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds and she was taken to a local hospital, police said. He injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
JSO said last week witnesses gave the description of Black male wearing a hoodie in his late-20s, early-30s. According to JSO, detectives identified Gay as the suspect using witness statements, surveillance footage and evidence from the scene.
JSO said the victim and woman were staying at the hotel and knew each other. Gay initially left the scene, JSO said.
An arrest warrant for Gay was served Thursday, and he was taken into custody.
