Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office have reported that Richard King, aged 25, and James Weaver, aged 38, used pepper spray on victims during their getaway attempts.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a significant breakthrough, two men have been apprehended following a series of “violent” armed robberies that plagued Jacksonville in June 2025, as announced by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Richard King and James Weaver are now facing several charges related to these incidents, which spanned a 10-day period in June, affecting multiple locations across the city.

Investigators revealed that King and Weaver targeted cashiers, waiting until they were isolated before threatening them with firearms, stealing money, and then using pepper spray to facilitate their escape.

“Demanding compliance at gunpoint and then resorting to pepper spray—it’s simply ruthless,” remarked JSO Sgt. Christopher Smith, highlighting the severity of their actions.

King and Weaver each face five armed robbery charges, according to court records.

“Detective Raquel Anderson with our Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation, working tirelessly to stop the brazen attacks,” JSO said in a release. “She reviewed hours of store surveillance video, tracked leads, and partnered with our Real Time Crime Center to identify a key piece of evidence. We recognized Detective Anderson’s efforts by naming her one of our Detectives of the Month. Her efforts go beyond just this case, as she works to make Duval safer every day.”
