A Jacksonville man is critically wounded after intervening in a domestic violence incident involving his daughter, JSO said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a man is in critical condition after being shot while trying to stop a domestic violence incident involving his daughter.

Sgt. Richardson with the Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit said officers were called around 6:50 p.m. to the 2800 block of Ahmad Drive North, where they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

Investigators believe the victim, who is in his early 50s, was attempting to intervene in an altercation between his daughter and her boyfriend when the boyfriend opened fire. The daughter is in her early 20s.

The suspect fled the area on foot, and police say he remains at large.

“This is an isolated incident, but the suspect is still outstanding at this time,” Richardson said. Detectives canvassed the area for video surveillance and interviewed witnesses, including the victim of the domestic violence incident — the man’s daughter.

The shooting began outside the home but continued inside, according to investigators. The father was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was in surgery as of the latest update.

Authorities have not said whether there were prior calls to the home, noting that detectives are still checking records.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s location is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500, email JSOCrimeTips@jacksheriff.org, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS to remain anonymous.
