The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is kicking off six weeks of town halls in all six of its districts.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office wants input from members of the community on ways to make their neighborhoods safer. Starting Tuesday, July 8, Sheriff T.K. Waters will kick off six weeks of town halls in each of the six patrol districts in which JSO operates.

“If they feel safe, that means that’s good. But if they don’t, I want to know why you don’t feel safe,” Waters explained.

Waters wants to hear concerns about crime and safety in each of the districts. He will then take the feedback and figure out how to address the concerns moving forward. He said each district has its own sets of challenges, and these conversations will help JSO ensure they are meeting those individual needs.

“You go to District 3, there’s a huge traffic issue because it’s so densely populated, so many people. You go to District 2, there’s a lot of homeless issues that people deal with…everyone has their issues, but some of the most more violent issues have been in Districts 4, 5, and 6,” Waters explained.

Waters will also take this opportunity to tout some of the successes his agency has achieved over the last year, including an overall drop in crime.

“We’re down 16.3% to 16.8% in crime in general. So, we’re seeing huge success across the map,” Waters said.

The number of homicides for 2025 so far is also on pace with the historic low numbers of 2024.

Looking ahead, Waters wants to keep the momentum going. He believes these townhalls, along with the expansion of the agency’s real time crime center, will continue the overall reduction of crime and help people feel safer in the city.

“We’re gonna make it so that it’s very difficult, if you do something in Jacksonville, you’re not gonna get away with it. That’s the goal,” Waters said.
