Fans filled VyStar Ballpark with excitement as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp chased their first International League title since 1968.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The energy was electric Tuesday night at VyStar Ballpark as fans gathered for a playoff series Jacksonville hasn’t seen since 1968.

From excited children chasing foul balls to longtime supporters reliving decades of memories, the love of baseball ran deep.

“It’s nostalgic for me because, back in the day when I was raising my kids, we’d be here 35 or 40 times a year,” one fan said. “They’re grown now.”

Hundreds cheered on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp as they competed for their first International League title since 1968.

“Being grandpa and grandson and it’s a family gig, we just love hanging out together,” another fan said.

The anticipation was high as fans held their breath, knowing the season had all come down to this one game.

“These guys have been together from spring training to here, and it all comes down to one game,” said a fan.

The ballpark offered more than baseball, it was a place where families created traditions and memories.

“If a player hits a home run or a foul ball, you can try to find that ball,” a young fan shared. “That’s what I really like about baseball, it’s interactive.”

For some, the night held special meaning beyond the game, symbolized by a commemorative ring given to season ticket holders.

“When I asked, they offered us a ring to commemorate the team,” said a longtime ticket holder. “It has the Marlins logo, the year they won, and my name. Pretty cool. It’s one of my better baseball keepsakes.”

Fans across the First Coast are fired up, ready to cheer the Shrimp to their first championship.

“Let’s get that W, and let’s go Shrimp!” they shouted.
