The vice president announced he will guest-host Kirk’s program Monday, calling it “an honor” to pay tribute to his late friend.

WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance will step behind the mic Monday to host “The Charlie Kirk Show” in tribute to his longtime friend, days after the conservative activist was shot and killed during a campus event in Utah.

Vance announced his appearance Sunday on X, calling it “an honor” to step in for his late friend.

“Please join me as I pay tribute to my friend,” he wrote.

Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative activist, was fatally shot Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. Police have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in relation to the fatal shooting.

Vance and Kirk had been close for many years, with Kirk backing Vance’s 2021 Senate campaign and introducing him to Donald Trump Jr. After the shooting, Vance missed 9/11 memorial events to escort Kirk’s casket and family to Phoenix aboard Air Force Two.

“Charlie Kirk was a true friend,” Vance wrote in a tribute online. “The kind of guy you could say something to and know it would always stay with him. I am on more than a few group chats with Charlie and people he introduced me to over the years. We celebrate weddings and babies, bust each other’s chops, and mourn the loss of loved ones.”

Vance also credited Kirk with playing a central role in helping staff the Trump administration. “So much of the success we’ve had in this administration traces directly to Charlie’s ability to organize and convene,” he said.

Turning Point USA will hold a public memorial for Kirk on Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.  President Donald Trump also  previously announced he would posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Kirk and ordered that U.S. flags be lowered to half-staff.

Trump previously paid tribute to Kirk, calling him “Great, and even Legendary” and saying “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.”

How to watch “The Charlie Kirk Show”

The special episode is scheduled to air at noon ET on Sept. 15. It can be watched on Rumble or streamed through Kirk’s website, as well as platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Omny FM.
