On Monday evening, New York City became the center of the entertainment world as Tinseltown’s elite gathered for the 35th Gotham Film Awards.

Stealing the spotlight on the red carpet were Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Hudson, and Julia Roberts, who made a stunning entrance at the renowned Cipriani Wall Street located in the heart of Downtown Manhattan.

This annual event is dedicated to acknowledging excellence in independent film and is widely regarded as the unofficial launch of the awards season.

Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for her gripping role in “Die My Love,” turned heads with her striking appearance, donning a daring black skirt that highlighted her legs.

The skirt was a showstopper, featuring a seductive slit up one side and an eye-catching asymmetrical train.

The Oscar-winner, 35, paired her skirt with a chic black blazer and sky-high black heels.

Hudson exuded Old Hollywood glam in a silky off-white halter gown that hugged her gym-honed figure.

The blonde bombshell, 46, wore her tresses slicked back off her face, giving her ample opportunity to show off her flawless makeup. She accessorized with dangly earrings. 

Hudson posed up on the red carpet with her Song Sung Blue co-star Hugh Jackman, 57, who looked dapper in a classic black suit and tie.

Jackman brought his Broadway star girlfriend Sutton Foster, 50, as his plus one to the starry affair in NYC.

The couple – who went red carpet official in October – have been dating since late 2024 following his divorce from longtime wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 70.

Roberts looked simply ageless as she soaked up the event’s A-list star power with director Luca Guadagnino by her side.

The Oscar-winning icon, 58, wowed onlookers in an eye-popping purple silk blazer and matching trousers.

Naomi Watts looked ethereal in a flowing light blue gown with her signature blonde bob styled in loose waves.

The All’s Fair star, 57, accessorized with an eye-catching diamond bracelet that matched her earrings.

The Gotham Film Awards proved to be a star-studded event, with Leonardo DiCaprio’s gritty film One Battle After Another leading the nominations.

Nominees were unveiled in October.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which was released on September 26, has a total of six nominations – the most ever in Gotham’s history.

The movie has been recognized in the categories Best Feature as well as acting nods for Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti.

The film centers on Bob (DiCaprio), a washed-up revolutionary who lives in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his self-reliant daughter, Willa. 

When his evil nemesis resurfaces and Willa goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her as both father and daughter battle the consequences of their pasts 

Past best feature winners have included Spotlight (2015), Moonlight (2016) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), all of which went on to win best picture at the Oscars. 

The removal of budget caps has changed the nominations, allowing for big-budget movies like One Battle After Another – which costs over $130 million – to compete.

The other films nominated for best feature, which now has 10 nominees, include Bugonia, East of Wall, Familiar Touch, Hamnet, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Lurker, Sorry, Baby, The Testament of Ann Lee and Train Dreams.

The best director category includes Mary Bronstein (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Jafar Panahi (It Was Just an Accident), Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind), Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another) and Oliver Laxe (Sirât).

Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee) and Tessa Thompson (Hedda), among others, were also nominated for their acting.

Supporting performance nominees include Jacob Elordi for Monster in Frankenstein and Adam Sandler for Jay Kelly.

And a father and son will be competing: Alexander Skarsgård (for Pillon) is in the same acting category as his father Stellan Skarsgård (for Sentimental Value).

Breakthrough performers include A$AP Rocky (Highest 2 Lowest) and Abou Sangaré (Souleymane’s Story).

Marty Supreme was not submitted because the film starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothee Chalamet was not finished on time for committee members to vote on.

The Gotham Awards are American film awards, presented annually to the makers of independent films at a ceremony in New York City, the city first nicknamed Gotham by native son Washington Irving, in an issue of Salmagundi, published on November 11, 1807.
